It extends from Carlisle and Newcastle in the north to Preston, Leeds and Hull in the south and from Heysham and Morecambe in the west to Whitby and Scarborough in the east.

The North Country Rover allows travel between Carlisle and Preston on the West Coast Main Line and between Newcastle and York on the East Coast Main Line.

Across country you can travel between Preston and Hull via Blackburn, Burnley, Bradford, Leeds and Selby and between Carlisle, Whitby and Saltburn via Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough as well as the branch lines to Morecambe and Heysham Port, Windermere, Clitheroe, Colne, Ilkley, Bishop Auckland, Saltburn and Whitby.

Scenic and coastal lines included are the Settle & Carlisle line, the Cumbrian Coast line between Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness, the Tyne Valley line between Carlisle and Newcastle and the Yorkshire Wolds Coast line between Hull and Scarborough.
