The area extends from Crewe in the west to Peterborough and Lincoln in the east, to Matlock, Alfreton and Worksop in the north and to Leicester, Nuneaton and Tamworth in the south.

The East Midlands Day Ranger allows travel from Derby to Matlock, Crewe and Tamworth; from Nottingham to Alfreton, Worksop, Lincoln and Grantham and from Leicester to Peterborough and Nuneaton.

Two separate circular journeys can be made: Derby-Tamorth-Nuneaton-Leicester-Derby and Nottingham-Grantham-Peterborough-Leicester-Nottingham.

Note that between Grantham and Peterborough the East Midlands Day Ranger is NOT VALID on London North Eastern Railway.

Note also that the East Midlands Day Ranger area is different from the East Midlands Rover area.
